Ligature Volume 2: Barbara Kosoff Out Now

An innovative micro-site by and about artists making unusual connections

SEATTLE, Wash., November 3, 2008 – Ligature Online (http://www.bigfigdesigngroup.com/1.0/ligature ) today announced the release of Ligature Volume 2: Barbara Kosoff.

Many artists who have worked in the commercial art world might very well be satisfied with the challenges and rewards that world provides; Barbara Kosoff is not one of those people. Drawing on her diverse experiences as a designer and art director, Barbara has turned to collage to express her unique voice.

Having lived in Philadelphia, Paris and now Los Angeles, Barbara is never satisfied with the conventional. She delights in putting seemingly unrelated ideas together in fresh ways, challenging our preconceptions about gender, pop culture, and politics -- to name a few.

“I create mixed-media works,” says Ms. Kosoff, “with photographic images taken with my camera or found in magazines and/or other pop culture publications, combined with drawing and painting with oil bars. Starting with an idea and responding to chance and serendipity, I allow my instincts to guide me. Working intuitively, I rearrange visual elements and place them in unlikely settings, combining the real to create the surreal; revealing an inner dream, dilemma or desire.”

Ms. Kosoff recently created an illustration for the L.A. Times that was published in the Food Section, for an article about ingredients found in wine. “This is the kind of assignment that I enjoy best,” says Kosoff, “when I can concept an idea and then create a thought-provoking illustration with a twist.”
