Ligature Volume 8: Miles Goodwin Out Now

 

An innovative micro-site by and about artists making unusual connections

 

SEATTLE, Wash., May 1, 2009 – Ligature Online (http://www.bigfigdesigngroup.com/1.0/Ligature/Ligature.html ) today announced the release of Ligature Volume 8: Miles Goodwin.

 

Miles Goodwin is an artist who loves to stir the pot, mixing different ideas, media and end products--with fabulously unexpected results!

 

Miles’ latest exhibition of paintings at Portland’s Mark Woolley Gallery sold out, a testament to his commitment to following his instincts. And with work in some important collections across the country, he is definitely an artist on the rise.

 

Not wanting to let himself get type-cast, Miles began experimenting with screen printing. Crafted by hand in his 10 by 12 studio, each piece is intuitively yet meticulously designed and is truly a work of art.

 

“I walked by these two fisherman on an old dock one evening,” says Goodwin. “As I passed them one said to me, ‘Don't go down that way there are no fish.’ I thought about it for a moment and had a gut instinct to fish where these wise old men knew there was nothing.

 

“So I proceeded to go my own way as they giggled behind me. My line was out in the water for 15 minutes and I was getting cold. Then my rod titled like a twig and I reeled in the biggest fish I ever saw. The fisherman were gone, they did not see it. ‘Trust yourself my friend, trust yourself.’”

Each month Ligature Online hosts an artist whose work and way of thinking makes interesting or unusual connections; designer as storyteller, writer as illustrator, sculptor as playwright, or poet as seamstress. The format and content will be left to each artist, as Ligature is designed to provide a space for artists to present and discuss their own work in their own way.
